Malaysia had her own women’s march on March 8 in conjunction with International Women’s Day. While the turn-out was quite modest (around 400 people), the spirit of the protest couldn’t be denied. The participants pressed for their seven demands, including an end to violence based on gender and sexual orientation, as well as their wish for equal pay for equal work. There were a lot of chanting, singing, fiery speeches, creative placards and over-all positive energy.
Below are some of the pictures from the march. Faces of the participants have been cropped out to prevent harassment. All images by Mohani Niza.
